THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT FOR THE TASK
|
| |
PestSure Members,
We recently received a claim in which a technician was injured
when he fell from his ladder. The ladder was located in the
bed of a very slow moving pickup. The driver of the vehicle
drove very carefully over a speed bump causing the ladder
to sway and toss the technician to the street surface.
Lesson:
- Never place a ladder in a truck bed or on or against
any other surface that can cause the ladder to slip, sink,
or move in any manner. Training in ladder use is essential.
- If more height is required to reach a particular
point, a ladder of the correct height should be obtained
rather than placing a ladder on top of something to increase
the height.
- If the task requires a combination of elevation
and forward motion, utilize the proper lift equipment
to complete the job.
As is typically the case, obtaining the proper equipment to
complete this job would have been much less expensive than
this claim. The potential for very serious injury existed
in this situation. Please share and discuss this Loss Lesson
with your entire team so we can all learn from this event.
